For a few of years we’ve lived in sin,
We have a Toaster, a Kettle and a Stainless Steel Bin.
Saucepans and Towels we have many,
Corkscrews and Flannels we don’t need any,
Many of our guests have inquired
for a gift idea to be inspired.
Like many young couples today,
we have a lot of things anyway.
If you would like to give, it is our request,
for something for our treasure chest.
A gift of money you can afford,
is just what we need, you can be assured!
Without the help of this little pun,
our honeymoon might not be as much fun.

Whenever we tell people that we are engaged, their first question is how did he propose. We never really understood that question because in the end, we are engaged and how it all happened doesn't define what our future holds. However, there was a proposal and it was perfect, for us.
It was the second day on the cruise ship. We were enjoying the sun and drinking well into the afternoon. Tonight was the first of two cruise elegant evenings and we needed to take a nap to prepare ourselves for the night shenanigans. On our way to our stateroom we noticed the onship jewelry store was having a special event for only one hour. We decided to swing in there and take a look around.
After seeing several rings that did not interest us, we were about to leave when the light of the store caused a ring to shimmer in our direction. We headed over to the case and immediately fell in love. The ring had a diamond solitaire surrounded by two halos of diamonds. It was the perfect size, not too big and not too small, but the bling was magnificent. It didn't take us long to realize this was our ring.
After a quick nap, we got ready for the cruise elegant evening. The ring was safely put away and though it was both on our minds, we decided to enjoy our evening. First, it was glamour shot time and then dinner. Dinner was enjoyable and there was hardly any talk about the ring or marriage.
After dinner, we all decided to change into more comfortable clothes to prepare for our night of Cards Against Humanity and more drinking. We both decided to watch the sunset from our balcony for a few minutes and during that impromptu moment with the wind at our face and the sun setting to our backs, Jack asked Chelsi to spend the rest of his life with him.
The answer was YES!
The Bride - as told by the groom.
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't also notice Chelsi one fateful morning in the base gym. For those of you who know me, I'm not the most outgoing, and while in gym-mode, I put in the headphones, crank up the Kelly Clarkson, and go to work. So, instead of meeting a new person that morning, the ultimate result was Chelsi getting the best creeper stare I had to offer.
Through a chance encounter, I guess in retrospect it wasn't chance since Chelsi went full stalker mode on me, Chelsi and I started talking about fairly mundane things. Basically, I needed a form that she had so I could get credit for going to the gym each morning. That started the ball rolling with the two of us talking about anything and everything.
I'd just relocated to Oregon, and my son Jake was staying with my sister in Eugene. I'd split my week up with one night in Portland and one night in Eugene. I was fairly content with being lame and doing nothing on my nights in Portland. Chelsi wasn't having that. She invited me out for an evening with friends, and even though I was nervous to interact with other people, she forced me and actually made me feel at ease.
Chelsi is a beautiful, smart, funny, and outgoing person. What I love about Chelsi is that she sets goals and finds a way to make them happen. When she says that she'd like to accomplish a task, I don't doubt that she'll make it happen. I've seen her run marathons on minimal training, I've seen her push herself to complete a Master's degree, and I know the future holds more accomplishments for her. She's got a bottomless bucket list and I'm honored to be her partner in checking items off that list.
I'm happy that she didn't let me get away with making an excuse not to hang out with her and friends. I had a strange feeling that if I didn't relent and hang with her, I'd be missing out on something I'd forever regret.
Over the last few years, she's made me realize that anything is possible. I never worry about the future with her because I trust the things she says and her actions always back up her words. She has welcomed Jake and I in to her life and loved us even with our goofy flaws. I'd like to say that she's the lucky one for having us, but I know without a doubt that our lives are better because of her.
The Groom - as told by the bride.
The first time I saw Jack I was working out at the base gym. Our Air Force base is rather small so I knew the regulars at the gym, and we very rarely got visitors, so I knew he was a new person assigned to our base.
I immediately claimed dibs. There was no one around to hear, but I winked at myself in the mirror and knew I had to find more information about this guy. Luckily for me, my Air Force job allowed me access to information that not everyone could see. I spent the next couple of weeks trying to figure out who this man was and where he was coming from. After gathering minimal information, thanks to the super slow process that is the Air Force, I was given an opportunity to interact with Jack.
He needed information and he was told that I would be the person to contact. It opened up email dialogue and I figured it would be the best opportunity to invite him out for thirsty Thurday's. At first he declined due to prior commitments but he joined us the next Thursday and as they say, the rest is history.
Jack is my best friend. The greatest man I have ever known, that isn't family. He is the ying to my yang, the black to my white, up to my down and everything in between. He provides a calm that I can't describe whenever my anxiety goes up, which is often.
For the first time in my life, I know what true love really is. For me, it is waking up every morning to a man who makes me smile and going to bed with someone I can't imagine a life without. A person whom I've never been mad at longer than five minutes, and a person who I have laughed so hard with that we are in tears.
He is my travel companion, my in sickness companion and the reason I want to be a better person everyday of my life. He is my life. And now, I get to spend the rest of my life with him.
